Judith C. Stern grew up in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, married, had four children, then attended the University of North Dakota and the University of Minnesota, graduating with degrees in Applied Art, American Indian Studies (Ojibwe language) and a minor in Elementary Education. She created Judith Stern Gallery and Judith Stern Designs. She studied writing at the Playwrights’ Center; story-telling with the Guthrie Theater; and taught American Indian Spirituality through the Minnesota Science Museum. At the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, she taught American Indian Art. J von Stern was her retail store in Marine on St. Croix. An active member of the Superior Hiking Trail Association, she hiked the entire trail with her life partner, Rudi Hargesheimer, author of The Superior Hiking Trail Story and Superior Trails: A Photo Tour of Lake Superior’s Best Hiking Trails.
